Start Ich bin eine Illustratorin und Designerin aus East London, aber stamme ursprünglich aus Brasilien. Studiert habe ich am Elisava (Barcelona) und meinen Master in Design am London College of Communication gemacht. Später habe ich das Character Development der Pictoplasma Academy (Berlin) besucht und eine Sommer Residenz in Illustration an der School of Visual Arts (New York). Gerade habe ich meinen Master in Kinderbuch-Illustration an der Anglia Ruskin Universität (Cambridge) gestartet.
Style Meine tropischen Einflüsse zeigen sich in meinen kräftigen und flächig aufgetragenen Farben. Gleichzeitig ist mein Stil stark von meiner Leidenschaft für Siebdruck beeinflusst, von Grafikdesign, das stark mit Formen arbeitet und von Handlettering.
Lieblingsmotive Inspiriert von den kleinen Details des Alltags, verwandele ich diese in Bilder mit einer fröhlichen Atmosphäre.
Technik Ich arbeite Schicht für Schicht. Die Materialien variieren: Bleistifte, Buntstifte, Füller, alles, was eine schöne Textur hat. Wichtig ist, dass es Schwarz ist! So kann ich in den verschiedenen Schichten arbeiten, die ich zum Druck übereinander lege! Beim Drucken bevorzuge ich leuchtende Acrylfarben! »Ich mag beide Teile des Prozesses. Ich habe versucht, mir ein Studio zu teilen, aber in der Regel habe ich bessere Ideen, wenn ich alleine bin. Beim Drucken jedoch ist es schön, mit anderen Leuten zusammen zu sein und gemeinsam Tee zu trinken während man darauf wartet, dass die Leinwand trocknet, damit man die nächste Schicht drucken kann.«
Inspiration Ich bin von der DIY Kultur beeinflusst und wenn ich nicht im Studio bin, findet man mich beim Siebdruck, beim Zines zusammenfalten oder auf Festivals.

Start Bia is an illustrator and designer based in East London originally from Brazil. She studied at Elisava (Barcelona), with an MA in Design at the London College of Communication. Later she joined the Character Development at the Pictoplasma Academy (Berlin) and attended the Summer Residency in Illustration at the School of Visual Arts (New York). Currently she just started an MA in Children’s Book Illustration Anglia Ruskin (Cambridge).
Style Her vibrant tropical influences are reflected in the bold use of block colours. Her style is also highly informed by her passion for screen-printing and graphic references rich in elements of shapes and handmade lettering. Favourite motifs: Bia finds inspiration in little details of everyday, turning them into pieces set in a fun-like atmosphere.
Technique I work building up layers. Varied materials: pencil, crayons, pens, anything with nice textures, really. As long as it is all in black! So I can easily work it in layers for separation to print later on! Than very vibrant acrylic colours for print! Working from studio, in desktop situation for sketching and writing. Once the images are ready, Bia either prepare files for print or go back to the screen print studio for printing. »I do like both parts of the process. I tried sharing studio for the creative part of the process, but in general I end up coming up with ideas better when I’m by myself, in my own space. The flip side is for printing, which is nice to be around people, and have a cup of tea while waiting for your screen to dry for the next printing layer.«
Inspiration Bia was inspired by DIY culture, so when Bia isn’t in the studio she can be found screen-printing, folding zines, attending festivals.
