Location In bin aus Frankreich, war einige Jahre in London und lebe gerade im schönen Kopenhagen in Dänemark.
Start Ich das Glück, dass meine Mutter uns als Kinder sehr ermutigt hat, uns Zeit für die Musik zu nehmen und unseren künstlerischen Leidenschaften nachzugehen. So war es ganz natürlich, dass ich schließlich beschloss, das mit einer Ausbildung in Kunst und Design fortzusetzen. Leider landete ich zuerst nicht auf einer besonders guten Schule und hatte nach meinem Abschluss im Jahr 2012 nicht viele technische Fähigkeiten. Ich arbeitete an zahlreichen persönlichen Projekten, filmte, animierte, malte und illustrierte und fand nach und nach zu meinem Stil. Einen Job konnte ich aber dennoch nicht finden, also beschloss ich 2015 nach London zu ziehen. Und in den folgenden Jahren verschwand die Kunst komplett aus meinem Leben. 2020 aber wurde ich, wie viele andere während der Covid-Pandemie auch, von meinem Job als Büromanagerin beurlaubt. Ich hatte plötzlich sehr viel Zeit, schloss ein Skillshare-Abonnement ab und begann Vollzeit, mir Motion Design beizubringen. Vier Monate später wurde ich als Animatorin in einer kleinen Kommunikationsagentur eingestellt!
Stil Ha, die schwierige Frage! Ich weiß nicht, ob ich meinen Stil selbst schon ganz durchblickt habe, denn vielleicht ist er noch nicht ganz ausgereift … Ich könnte aber versuchen, ihn als verspielt und lebendig zu beschreiben, mit vereinfachten Formen und sanften, aber kontrastreichen Farbpaletten. Ich spiele viel mit Kurven und geraden Linien und liebe es, Muster in meine Illustrationen einzubauen.
Lieblingsmotive Ich liebe Pflanzen … vor allem Blumen, und so finden sich viele davon in meiner Arbeit. Zurzeit habe ich eine Phase, die ich »skurrile Blumentöpfe« nenne … Ich habe mir vorgenommen, eine Serie daraus zu machen und sie 2025 in Japan auszustellen. Ich war zwar erst zweimal zu Besuch in Japan und kenne niemanden dort, der diese zukünftigen Bilder zeigen möchte, aber wer verzichtet schon gerne auf Herausforderungen? Ich illustriere auch gerne Mädchen und Tiere und mag große Mandelaugen. Ich bin ein wenig besessen davon, dass sie die Betrachter direkt anschauen und das so, als ob sie sich still mit uns unterhalten würden.
Technik Für meine digitalen Illustrationen benutze ich Procreate. Für meine Malerei Acryl und für meine Animationen After Effects. Obwohl ich auch gerne meine Fähigkeiten ausbauen würde und TVPaint lernen.
Inspiration Es gibt ein paar Orte, wo es mich immer wieder hinzieht, um meine Inspiration aufzufrischen. Ganz oben auf meiner Liste stehen Gärten! Meine drei liebsten Gärten sind der Botanische Garten in Kopenhagen und sein unglaublich schönes Palmehus. Ich habe eine Jahreskarte für diesen Garten, weil ich ständig dort bin. Dann der Drum Castle Garden in Banchory, Schottland, und der Yoshikien-Garten in Nara, Japan. Dann zieht es mich natürlich in Museen und Galerien, wobei meine Favoriten das Victoria & Albert Museum in London und die Orangerie in Paris sind. Ich mag auch die Arbeit des Animationsstudios Cartoon Saloon sehr. Und schließlich scrolle ich oft endlos auf Pinterest!
Kunden Als freiberufliche 2D-Animatorin sind meine Kunden meist Kommunikations- oder Produktionsstudios. Wenn ich direkt mit Kunden zusammenarbeite, handelt es sich oft um öffentliche Organisationen oder Wohlfahrtsverbände. Zum Beispiel habe ich gerade einen kleinen Dokumentarfilm für den National Trust for Scotland über Anna Forbes Irvine, eine sehr inspirierende schottische Malerin aus dem 19. Jahrhundert, fertiggestellt.
Start As a kid, I was lucky that my mother was very much encouraging us kids to invest time in learning music and pursuing our artistic passions, so it was quite naturally that, as I grew up, I decided to pursue my education in Art and Design. Sadly I didn’t land in a very good school and didn’t have much technical skills after graduating in 2012. I worked on a lot of personal projects, filming, animating, painting, and illustrating, slowly figuring out my style and universe, but I still couldn’t find a job. So in 2015, I decided to move to London, and for the following few years, Art completely disappeared from my life. Then in 2020, as many others during the Covid pandemic, I found myself furloughed from my office manager job and with plenty of time at hand. I decided to take a Skillshare subscription and started to teach myself motion design full-time. Four months later, I was hired as an animator in a little communication agency!
Style Ha, the tough question! I don’t know if I have fully figured mine out yet, but maybe this is a forever work in progress… I could try and describe it as playful and vibrant, with simplified shapes, and soft yet contrasting color palettes. I do play a lot with the curve-vs-straight lines approach, and I love to sprinkle patterns in my illustrations.
Favourite motifs I love plants… especially flowers, so there’s a lot of this in my work. I’m currently having what I call a “whimsical flower-pots” phase… and gave myself the challenge to create a series of these and do a painting exhibition in Japan in 2025. I’ve only been to Japan twice to visit, and don’t know anyone who would like to exhibit these future paintings, but who doesn’t like a challenge? I also like to illustrate girls and animal characters, and give them all big almond eyes. I have a little obsession with having them look straight at the viewer, as if they were silently engaging with us.
Technique For my digital illustrations, I use Procreate. For my paintings, I go with acrylic, and for my animations it’s with After Effects, though I’d love to broaden my skills and learn TV paint too.
Inspiration There’s a few places that I have to visit regularly to refuel my inspiration. Top of my list are gardens! My most beloved three are the Botanical Garden of Copenhagen and its incredibly beautiful Palmehus – I have a yearly pass to it as I go all the time -, the Drum Castle Garden in Banchory, Scotland, and the Yoshikien Garden in Nara, Japan. Then of course museums and galleries, my favorites being the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, and the Orangery in Paris. I also really love the work of the animation studio Cartoon Saloon. And finally, scrolling endlessly on Pinterest is something I often do!
Clients As a freelance 2D animator, my clients are mostly communication or production studios. When I work directly with clients, they often are public organizations or charities. For example, I just finished editing a tiny documentary for the National Trust for Scotland about Anna Forbes Irvin, a very inspiring 19th-century Scottish painter.
