Richard van der Laken is a Dutch graphic designer specialized in iconic visual communication, brands, print, web, motion graphics and events. He and Pepijn Zurburg are the founders of De Designpolitie based in Amsterdam. The studio is celebrated for its fresh, deceptively simple and direct approach to graphic design. Among other projects, they are the designers behind the review column »Gorilla« in the Dutch newspaper »De Volkskrant« and in the weekly magazine »Groene Amsterdammer«. In the their columns they react to current affairs with word-and-image graphics. Since 2011 Richard van der Laken is also initiator and director of the international conference about the impact of design What design can do! in Amsterdam.
